Misleading Statistic of the Day













































It's hard to keep up with all the whoppers in the world today but I particularly enjoyed this one from Liz Truss.  Here Mr Sentance is showing the rate of change of GDP per decade not GDP per decade to decieve the reader that this is actual GDP and to make it even more opaque the statistics for each year are first annualised and then added together and averaged over a ten year period rather than just being cumulitatively averaged.  





















A GDP graph that hadn't been differentiated to show the rate of change of GDP rather than GDP would look like this...
